Lost Amazon Package? Here’s your free step-by-step guide to navigate their system

Heads up: We recommended waiting 24 hours past the original delivery date before you start this process. It can be time consuming and we’d hate for you to go through all the work just to have your package show up on your doorstep the next day! On the other hand, you have only 15-90 days, depending on the product, to submit your claim, so – don’t wait too long.

p.s. If your item is broken (versus lost), you only have 14 days to file your claim.

Gather all records of purchase including: receipts, tracking numbers, shipping details and any other documentation explaining the reason for the claim.

Determine if you are contacting Amazon Fulfillment (FBA) or a 3rd Party Seller
We will walk you through how to determine who is responsible and your first point of contact.

First let’s check to see who you should contact first:

  • Log into your Amazon account
  • Go to Your Account
  • Select Your Orders, then Order Details
  • Once on Order Details, choose Track Package
  • Click Track Package and it will bring you to the below screen, or one similar.
  • (in green) Steps 1 and 2 are the most important.

Amazon Lost Package Guide:
Dealing with Amazon directly for your lost package

Amazon’s customer support is good and very helpful, but they don’t make it easy to find. Click here to log into Amazon’s Contact Us Page and follow our instructions for how to proceed:

What to do on the call with Amazon customer support:

Give them your order number and tell them that you see your package was fulfilled by the 3rd party seller but was not delivered by Amazon. They will then look up the order to resolve it on their end. If they cannot resolve the issue quickly, they need either to send you a replacement item, or refund you the full amount you paid.

Once that happens, they will walk you through the timing and specifics of the replacement and you should be good to go!

  • Click on the 3rd Party Seller name (as below):

  • Click on “Ask a question” to contact the seller

  • Select “An order I placed” (1st pointer hand) which will make the next options appear.
  • Go to the “Tell us more about your issue” section (2nd pointer hand) and select “Where’s My Stuff” (2nd pointer hand) from the drop down menu.
  • Then confirm that the shipment you have selected is the correct one.

  • Click “Write message” (3rd pointer hand) at the bottom to message the seller directly.
    • Here is a template message to send to the seller:
“Hello, I am contacting you to report a lost package for order number (include order number here). My package was scheduled to arrive on (insert delivery date here). It has been 24 hours from that date and I still have not received my package. As the seller, you now have 24 hours to respond to my request to locate my package and send it to Amazon’s fulfillment center before I submit a claim. Thank you and I look forward to your response and getting the issue resolved.”
  • Once you send this message, your seller has 24 hours to respond. If the seller fails to respond within 24 hours or refuses to work with you, you can then submit a claim directly to Amazon. If you need to submit a claim to Amazon, continue on:

Why is Package Theft trending?

Are you and your friends ordering more products online this year than last year? More and more packages are arriving… and more are being stolen.

Every year more packages are delivered than the previous year as all of us “love” the convenience of online shopping. This trend is not slowing down. “Our goal is to provide an affordable solution that gives you the peace of mind you want regarding home deliveries,” says Mike Grabham, founder of Package Guard, Inc. A serial entrepreneur, he was a victim of package theft – packages that were purchased to provide cold weather clothing and gear for the homeless. “I learned first hand what a pain it is to lose a package, find and submit claim forms, and waste a lot of time going back and forth with the seller. It was not a great experience.” So he created Package Guard.

With the dramatic increase in valuable items delivered, package theft has increased along with deliveries. This is a crime of opportunity. Anyone can commit package theft and with almost no risk of getting caught until “after” the crime and it attracts all kinds of opportunistic and unskilled thieves which isn’t great for neighborhoods, communities, and those who expect others to respect their property and the law. People are getting important, sometimes life critical items stolen, like this story about a mother getting her baby’s special formula stolen which had run out the day before. There are hundreds of stories similar to this about losing things that are irreplaceable or time sensitive. Package Guard helps combat this problem.

With more deliveries this year than ever before, smart technology like Package Guard ensuring those precious gifts make it into the right hands.” watch on NBC Nightly News on Nov 28, 2016

Package Guard is a device that can be attached to your porch and sends guaranteed real-time alerts to you and your Safe Circle (an invite-only circle of neighbors or friends who can pick up a package for you) when a package arrives. It has a smartphone app that your Safe Circle can use to pick up a package without setting off the internal alarm. It retails for $89.

“Along with the real time alerts you have the help of your neighbors through the Safe Circle and the easy to use app that keeps all your information of past deliveries and current package arrivals. These features with the optional yard sign and internal alarm gives you peace of mind of knowing your package will be there when you get home,” says Grabham.

Given its origin, Package Guard, Inc gives $1 for every device that is sold to the nonprofit Survive the Streets. Grabham says, “Our hope is we can help the homeless by protecting your home from package thieves $1 at a time. It is great way to help the less fortunate.” Mike Grabham and Patti Dunn have managed the nonprofit for the last 18 years. “Every Thanksgiving we help hundreds of people living in shelters, it truly is one of the best days for us every year,” says Patti.

We’re working to give consumers peace of mind so they come home to what you expect – their package on their front porch. It’s a problem 11 million Americans have experienced and we’re making a community-focused product to put a dent in the problem.
